Saint Aloysius Gonzaga

Jesuit scholastic · Patron of youth
1568–1591

Italian Jesuit scholastic who renounced a marquisate for religious life and died at twenty-three nursing plague victims in Rome; patron of young people. Beyond a handful of letters, little from his own hand survives — what we know comes from those who wrote about him. His feast falls on 21 June.

A richly-documented figure overflows with verbatim words and works; a sparsely-sourced one is handled honestly — what survives in the public domain, plainly shown, nothing padded.
