Bede the Venerable, on Luke 10:1
Bede the Venerable · c. A.D. 672–735
Luke 10:1 · Douay-Rheims
“And after these things the Lord appointed also other seventy-two: and he sent them two and two before his face into every city and place whither he himself was to come.”
On this verse:
“Rightly are seventy-two sent, for to so many nations of the world was the Gospel to be preached, that as at first twelve were appointed because of the twelve tribes of Israel, so, these also were ordained as teachers for the instruction of the foreign nations.”
