Thomas Aquinas · 1225–1274
Job 27:19 · Douay-Rheims
“The rich man when he shall sleep shall take away nothing with him: he shall open his eyes and find nothing.”
On this verse:
“He shows how he loses the goods he had acquired when he says, "When a rich man goes to sleep," when he dies, "he will take nothing" of his possessions with him to the other life. "He will open his eyes," in the resurrection, "and will find nothing," because he will not return to possess temporal goods.”
