Vigilius of Thapsus, on Wis 12:27
Vigilius of Thapsus · c. A.D. 484
Wis 12:27 · Douay-Rheims
“For seeing with indignation that they suffered by those very things which they took for gods, when they were destroyed by the same, they acknowledged him the true God, whom in time past they denied that they knew: for which cause the end also of their condemnation came upon them.”
On this verse:
“We prove that the Son is true, as the Father is, by the words of the prophets and the Gospels, Isaiah saying: To those serving me there shall be called a new name, which shall be blessed upon the earth; and they shall bless the true God, and those who swear upon the earth shall swear by the true God (Isa. 65:15). And in Solomon: Those whom they think to be gods shall fear, by whom they shall be destroyed; seeing him whom they once denied, they have acknowledged as the true God (Wis. 12:27).”
