Cyril of Alexandria — as excerpted in the Catena Aurea on Luke 7:24-28

Patristic A.D. 444
Cyril of Alexandria · A.D. 376–444
“But in a mystery, when shewing the superiority of John among those that are born of women, he places in opposition something greater, namely, Himself who was born by the holy Spirit the Son of God. For the kingdom of the Lord is the Spirit of God. Although then as respects works and holiness, we may be inferior to those who attained unto the mystery of the law, whom John represents, yet through Christ we have greater things, being made partakers of the Divine nature.”
