(Calmet) — The Scythians condemned many friends, no less than many wives, (Luc. Tox.) and Aristotle (Eth. ix. 10.) commends this maxim of Hesiod: mete poluxeinos met azeinos ; “neither to have too many guests, or intimate friends, nor to be without any.”
