Matthew 2:13 Douay-Rheims

And after they were departed, behold an angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph, saying: Arise, and take the child and his mother, and fly into Egypt: and be there until I shall tell thee. For it will come to pass that Herod will seek the child to destroy him.

In a dream. God manifests His will as He pleases, and gives His servants full evidence of His manifestations. This took place probably as Joseph, after the presentation, was on his way to Nazareth. It was likely that inquiries might be made concerning the infant born at Bethle- hem, which might lead to his discovery elsewhere. It was only a few days' journey to Alexandria, where the Jews were numerous, and where there was a synagogue.
