And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the chairs of them that sold doves:

The court-yards connected with the sacred edifice were included under the term temple. In these it was customary to sell the animals usually offered in sacrifice, and the doves which were presented as of- ferings ; as also to exchange Hebrew for Roman money. I have bor- rowed the term " stalls" from " A Catholic."
