A strong friend. A friend is a partner of love, to whom so apply thy mind that of two there be made one, to whom thou mayest commit thyself as to thyself, from whom thou mayest fear nothing: and thou mayest ask nothing dishonourable. For friendship is not a thing of tribute, but full of comeliness; whence: You are my friends, if you do the things that I command you, etc. The Lord has given us a form of friendship which we should follow: that we do the friend's will, that we open to him our secrets, and he to us; whence: But I have called you friends, because all things whatsoever I have heard of my Father, I have made known to you.
