Cosmas Indicopleustes, on Gen 2:17

Cosmas Indicopleustes · c. A.D. 550
Gen 2:17 · Douay-Rheims
“But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat. For in what day soever thou shalt eat of it, thou shalt die the death.”
On this verse:
“When God said: In what day thou eatest of the tree, thou shalt surely die, he pronounced him to have become mortal, for we see that he did not die immediately according to the threat, so that it is evident the words hinted this: Immortal though thou art, thou shalt become mortal.”
