Ambrose of Milan, on Judg 19:27

Ambrose of Milan · A.D. 339–397
Judg 19:27 · Douay-Rheims
“And in the morning the man arose, and opened the door that he might end the journey he had begun: and behold his concubine lay before the door with her hands spread on the threshold.”
On this verse:
“The Levite, coming out, found her lying there and thought that she dared not lift her head for shame. He began comforting her, since she had succumbed to such injury not willingly but unwillingly. He bade her rise and go home with him. Then, as no answer came, he called her loudly as though to rouse her from sleep.”
