Job 19:6 Douay-Rheims

At least now understand, that God hath not afflicted me with an equal judgment, and compassed me with his scourges.

Francis Patrick Kenrick

1796–1863 Catholic

P. "Overthrown." L. " Bent me down." He complains of the severity of the Divine visitation, not that God acted unjustly, but that an occasion appeared to be given by the fault of his afflicted servant. " How harshly," exclaims St. Gregory, "does this expression sound on the lips of the just man when scourged, which, nevertheless, was not dictated by pride, but wrung from him by suffering!"
