As distinguished from heathen deities. St. Chrysostom and St. Au- gustin among the ancients, and Heinsius among moderns, think that there is here an inversion, so that the text should read : " This is eternal life, that they know Thee, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent, the only true God."
