Mark xiii. 14 ; Luke xxi. 20 ; Daniel ix. 27. The zealots, who took possession of the temple, and made it the theatre of strife, and literally a human slaughter house, did that which was abominable, and the fore- runner of desolation. The image of Cesar was also placed there by Pilate, and an equestrian statue of Hadrian was erected on the site.
