This is the generation of them that seek him, of them that seek the face of the God of Jacob.

The text and St. Jerome have : " that seek thy face Jacob." Rosenmiiller thinks that Jacob is here put for his descendants, a race fearing God. The Syriac interpreter, as well as the Septuagint, under- stands by it, the God whom Jacob worshipped, and who made promises to him. Some modern critics prefer this meaning.
