Song of Songs 1:6
Douay-Rheims
Do not consider me that I am brown, because the sun hath altered my colour: the sons of my mother have fought against me, they have made me the keeper in the vineyards: my vineyard I have not kept.
Francis Patrick Kenrick
Her own vineyard was neglected, that she might attend to the vineyards given her in charge. Grotius, however, thinks that the observance of celibacy, is meant by the keeping of the vineyard. The church was forced to abandon, in a great measure, Judea, which was originally the vineyard of God.
