Ephesians 1:14 Douay-Rheims

Who is the pledge of our inheritance, unto the redemption of acquisition, unto the praise of his glory.

Francis Patrick Kenrick

1796–1863 Catholic

This obscure phrase may mean the redemption effected for us, or the redemp- tion of the purchased inheritance, the heavenly kingdom. The grace of the Holy Ghost is an earnest of future glory. The obscurity of the text, in this and other places, can only be removed by a conjectural and free translation, on which the Vulgate does not easily venture.
