Lam 3:22 · Douay-Rheims
“Heth. The mercies of the Lord that we are not consumed: because his commiserations have not failed.”
On this verse:
“Verily, the kindnesses of the Lord never cease and the entire section until (v. 39): “Why should [a living man] complain? etc.” Indeed, His mercies never fail Heb. כִּי לא תָמְנוּ, like כִּי לֹא תָמוּ. And some explain: כִּי לֹא תָמְנוּ, [for we have not ended] like (Num. 17:27): “Are we then altogether given (תָמְנוּ) to die?” It is [because of] the kindnesses of the Lord that we have not ended, that we have not perished because of our iniquities.”
Hebrew and Aramaic words are the commentator’s citations of the sacred text; the English translation that follows each is the translator’s.
