PD · Francis Patrick Kenrick, Baltimore, 1849–1860 (Gospels 1849; Acts, Epistles & Apocalypse 1851; Psalms, Wisdom books & Canticle 1857; Job & the Prophets 1859; Pentateuch 1860)
Chapter 44

Ezekiel 44

It was opened on each Sab hath and new moon, but no one was allowed to pass through it Infra

This noun has the sign of the accusative in H. Several MSS. omit the noun here, but all have it in the following sentence. It does not appear that any exception was made for the prince, who, however, might advance to this gate with a voluntary offering, and sit there to partake of it, but was directed to return, without entering. The Jews, as R. remarks, explain it of the Messiah. The fathers take the gate to he the type of the Virgin Mary, through whom the Lord God entered into the world. Her perpetual virginity is aptly signified by the language of the prophet. M Some," says St. Jerome, " beautifully explain the closed gate, through which the Lord God of Israel alone enters, And the prince for whom the gate is shut, of the Virgin Mary, who, both before and after parturition, was a virgin."

II. P. " Judge it according to My judgments."
