“Here he shows their hardness, in that they are not moved by benefits. And first he sets forth the benefits that pertain to the use of life: "See, understand. Have I become a wilderness to Israel?" Nay rather, I have been to you as a city, and a most fruitful land: for I defend you, and grant the fruits of the earth. Hosea 6: "He shall come to us as the early rain, and the latter rain of the earth." Second, those things that pertain to adornment: "Will a virgin forget her ornament?" Isaiah 6: "He has clothed me about with a garment of justice."”
