Ibn Ezra

Abraham ibn Ezra, born in Tudela in Muslim Spain, was one of the most versatile minds of the Jewish Middle Ages — biblical commentator, Hebrew grammarian, poet, philosopher, and astronomer. After the age of fifty he left Spain and spent the rest of his life wandering through Italy, France, and England, carrying the learning of Spanish Jewry to new lands. His terse, sharp-witted commentaries insist on the plain grammatical sense of the text, and his guarded hints about how the Torah came to be written were noticed and pursued by later readers.
