Methodius of Olympus

Methodius was a bishop of the early Church — most likely of Olympus in Lycia — and a martyr, put to death in the last great persecution around the year 311. His most famous work is the Symposium, or Banquet of the Ten Virgins, a Christian dialogue modelled on Plato’s own Symposium, in which ten virgins in turn deliver speeches in praise of chastity. He was also one of the earliest theologians to criticize Origen, disputing his teaching on the resurrection body and the eternity of the world.
