Do penance. For your covetousness, and the depraved sense by which you thought that a bargain could be made concerning the Spirit. That all may see what you are. Not that Peter is ignorant that he will not do penance, but because it is just to preach to all, he does his own office, that the man may be inexcusable. He is rebuked before all also, lest they be deceived by him any longer. Ask God. To whom the heart lies open, of whom the Prophet: How good is God to Israel; whom no one can deceive, because the Holy Spirit of discipline will flee what is feigned.
