Rashi, on Lam 2:7

Rashi · 1040–1105
Lam 2:7 · Douay-Rheims
“Zain. The Lord hath cast off his altar, he hath cursed his sanctuary: he hath delivered the walls of the towers thereof into the hand of the enemy: they have made a noise in the house of the Lord, as in the day of a solemn feast.”
On this verse:
“He has abolished Heb. נִאֵר, and so, (Ps. 89:40): “You abrogated (נֵאַרְתָּה) the covenant of Your servant.” as on a day of a festival For they were making merry and singing in its midst with a loud voice. So did the enemies let out a cry of joy when it was destroyed.”

Hebrew and Aramaic words are the commentator’s citations of the sacred text; the English translation that follows each is the translator’s.
